Ulcerative Colitis Disease Activity
- Remission
- Periods when inflammation is controlled
- No symptoms
- Occurs spontaneously or after medical and/or surgical intervention
Mild Ulcerative Colitis
- Less than 4 stools per day with or without small amounts of blood
- Mild, crampy abdominal pain
- Sense of incomplete emptying after a bowel movement
- Periods of constipation
Moderate Ulcerative Colitis
- Frequent (4 to 6 per day) loose, bloody stools
- Moderate abdominal pain
- None or minimal symptoms, such as fever or weight loss
Severe Ulcerative Colitis
- Frequents, loose bloody stools (more than or equal to 6)
- Severe cramps, high fever, weight loss
Fulminant Ulcerative Colitis
- Bloody stool frequency more than or equal to 10 per day with urgency
- High fever, severe cramps, abdominal distention
